Located in northern Tanzania on the border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Mara River Tented Camp is ideally situated on a bend in the Mara River within the Lamai Triangle where you will be surrounded by some of the country’s most diverse wildlife. During your stay on the Mara River you will be invited to embark on daily morning, afternoon and evening game drives led by expert guides who will take you around the expansive reserve to get up close and personal with the native animals. After enjoying breakfast on your tent’s private deck, meet with your guide for the day and hop into a state-of-the-art Range Rover. The lodge’s guides and trackers know this environment and its animals like the back of their hand and will follow behavioural patterns and visible tracks to increase your chances of seeing them in their most natural state. In the Lamai Triangle you are likely to see a wide variety of wildlife including buffalo, wildebeest, lions, leopards, giraffes, elephants, zebras, crocodiles and many more. While the day-time drives allow you to witness the wild under the sun’s light, the evening dusk drives offer a special glimpse into the elusive nocturnal behaviours of these animals.
When you aren’t out exploring the reserve, the Singita Mara River tented camp offers a selection of relaxing activities to take part in, all while soaking up the incredible grassland views. Spend your evenings watching the watercolour sunsets as you take a dip in the camp’s plunge pool before treating yourself to a cocktail or two on your private deck as you leisurely play one of the many board games from the lodge’s collection. If you’re in the mood to indulge yourself, why not let us arrange a spa treatment? Designed to invite you to reconnect with nature, enjoy a holistic signature treatment on your private deck or in the comfort of your tent.
If you consider yourself something of a wine connoisseur, you’re in for a real treat. The Singita Group is known to be one of the most influential wine collectors in Africa and it doesn’t take more than a glimpse at the impressive wine list to see why. For some expert insight into the collection, let us put together a personalised wine tasting experience led by one of the camp’s knowledgable sommeliers. All breakfasts, lunches and dinners are enjoyed on the campsite where the chef and his team prepare delicious gourmet interpretations of traditional African cuisine.
On the the sixth day of your journey, the time has come to depart the Mara River and head for The Singita Sabora Tented Camp within the untouched wilderness of the Grumeti Reserves. After breakfast you will board the propeller plane taking you on a scenic one-hour flight to this next tented camp on your safari adventure. Upon landing at the Singita Sasakwa airstrip, you will be picked up by your private chauffeur and driven to the luxury tented camp. Surrounded by endless savannah plains, a stay at this intimate tented camp is like taking a step back to the 1920s. Nostalgically modelled on an early-twentieth century explorer-style camp, The Sabora Tented Camp evokes the charm, style and elegance of a bygone era. Like all of the Singita properties, the Sabora camp is dedicated to preserve and protect the wilderness through environmentally conscious practices designed to “touch the earth lightly”.
At The Sabora Tented Camp, you can expect a refreshingly different atmosphere to the neutral and pared back interiors of the Mara River camp. Here the tents are furnished with ornate antiques, intriguing curios, afghan rugs, leather traveller trunks and lavish cushions and blankets. The campsite includes nine one-bedroom tents, all with their own private decks from which you can watch the sun rise and set behind the African plains. With a highly curated boutique and gallery within the camp’s grounds, you’ll be able to bring some of that African spirit back home with you. From collectable sculptures and homeware pieces to woven furnishings and authentic artefacts, this is the perfect spot to pick up some special souvenirs to remember your Tanzanian experience.
Whether you want to set out on game drives or take part in the more adventurous walking safaris, the camp’s experts will take you to see some of the region’s most fascinating animals in their natural habitats. The walking guides are a thrilling way to experience the environment from a different, more intimate vantage point. Accompanied by an expert guide and tracker, you will be led on foot across the surrounding landscapes as they educate you about the fascinating animals and plants you encounter. Here you will also have the opportunity to meet the people that make Africa the incredible place that it is. Working with the Grumeti Fund Community Outreach Program and their partnering communities, Singita invites you to visit the surrounding villages and meet with their residents to learn about the brilliant resource management and enterprise development initiatives being practiced in these communities. To end the day in true magical form, why not board a hot air balloon ride over the canopies of the Serengeti. Seeing the reserve from 1000 feet above, you’ll gain a humbling perspective on the majestic wilderness below.
Down time back at the campsite between daily safari activities offers a chance to enjoy some of the camp’s fantastic facilities. Start your day with a scenic workout at the fully equipped fitness centre looking out onto the sepia-toned grasslands or wind down with a game of tennis before a cooling dip in the swimming pool by the communal tented lounge area. Here you can enjoy snacks and cocktails as you mingle with other guests, sharing stories of the scenes and hunts that you have witnessed that day.
End your safari adventure with a memorable experience to remind you of the vulnerability of our planet and the importance of supporting the organisations dedicated to preserving it. Committed to protecting the vulnerable wildlife from poachers,The Singita Grumeti Fund anti-poaching team is made up of 120 dedicated scouts who patrol the area, surveying for any unusual activity. There are twelve observation posts spread out across the reserve, one of which welcomes guests of the Sabora Tented Camp to see firsthand what goes into the protection of the reserve. Perched on the top of a hill, the post offers incredible sunset views of the endless savannah plains below and is a great resting point for a late afternoon drink combined with some insightful talks from the guides about the anti-poaching activity.
